You’re busy as it is and adding something else to your plate can seem overwhelming. When you’re used to the structure that you get from your 9 to 5, starting your own business can seem chaotic. But here are a few tips to help you get the business ball rolling so that you’re on the right track, and not drowning in confusion.
Set aside a realistic amount of time aside dedicated to your business. Start off with something realistic and slow so that you’re not overdoing it. When we started out, working a 9 to 5 was a bit hard to work around, so we focused on about 5 hours a week to start and made sure to add more hours when we felt we could handle it. This will help you to get used to running your own business while showing face at your job.
Get Organized AF
The same structure you have at your 9 to 5, is what you’ll need when running your own business online, so you will need to keep yourself organized AF! Making sure that you’re doing things on time everyday or every week, is how you’ll beast out all of your important things to do and stay ahead of the game. Get like me and use a planner or calendar if you’re the pen and paper type, or load your appointments into an online app that will remind you that you need to get shit done! Evernote is a great app just for that!
Be Seen Online
Starting an online business means you’ll need to get people used to seeing your gorgeous face, and familiar with your brand. Spending a little time on Facebook, Instagram and even Twitter a few times a day are great ways to grow your online business. When you have a 9 to 5, sometimes the boss bans usage of your phone or going online, so you’ll want to take advantage of apps like Later, or Buffer to get this done for you.
Remember the goal is to get known for what your brand does, so the more you get the world used to, and into what you do, the more your business will grow! Being known as the go to expert in your niche is badass, and a true way to eventually turn your followers into customers so you can ultimately start getting money!
Track Your Results.
Just like you’ve experienced working a 9 to 5, there will be things that work and others that completely suck when it comes to business attempts! So it’s important that you track the results that you get from both your social media efforts and your blog posts. If you’re not seeing a lot of likes to a specific picture posted on Instagram, monitoring the time of day, the quality of the image, and the hashtags used would be a great way to gauge results for your business. Make sure that you do this across the board for each blog and social media post will help tremendously in learning your audience, and finding out where you need to tweak, and repeat.
Remember running a successful online business is all about trial and error. The more knowledge you have about what works, and what doesn’t, the better you’ll be able to provide your audience with the perfect products and tools that will help them and make your brand stand out!
